~!~ Gaming Olympics ~!~
[Most Recent Update On 04.16.08]

Games & Gifts Galore's Gaming Olympics

Three times each year, Games & Gifts Galore gives away huge prizes to the gamers who prove themselves to be the most well-rounded, most dedicated, and best players in Games & Gifts Galore's gaming community. This program is known as the Gaming Olympics. To date, Games & Gifts Galore has given away an iPod, a Nintendo Wii, and $300 in Games & Gifts Galore Gift Certificates, plus all sorts of great additional prizes for participation. The Gaming Olympics is broken down into three approximately equal time periods:
    (using 2008 dates)
  • Jan. 1st - April 18th: Spring Olympics
  • Apr. 21st - Aug. 22nd: Summer Olympics
  • Aug. 25th - Dec. 19th: Winter Olympics

During the listed dates for the competition, players compete for points, which are acquired through the following means:

  • Play in tournaments and special events (1 point per $5 in the entry fee)
  • Win tournaments (trade in your prizes for an equivalent number of points)
  • Make purchases at the store (1 point per $30 in purchases)

At the end of the competition period, all players with 26 points or more are qualified to participate in the Grand Tournament, which takes place the following day (always a Saturday) and has a $25 entry fee, in which they compete in elimination-style competition until only one player remains as the winner.

Presently, we are in the Spring Olympics season, which is drawing very near the close. Unfortunately, the change in ownership at Games & Gifts Galore has taken its toll on the Gaming Olympics: throughout the early transition period of the preparations for this change in ownership over the course of the past several months, much of the records for this Spring Gaming Olympics have been lost. After careful consideration, Games & Gifts Galore's staff has decided to solve this situation in the following manner:
Every player who has at least one point in the Spring Gaming Olympics will automatically be reset to 26 points at the end of the day on April 18th, qualifying every one of them for the Grand Tournament the following day. We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause for the players who already had greater than 26 points, who will end up losing points on the deal, but hopefully everything will work out, as this Gaming Olympics Grand Tournament stands to provide the most diverse crowd of participants at the Grand Tournament as we have seen yet. The Summer Olympics, of course, will go back to normal organization, with players accumulating points throughout the season. Details for the Spring Grand Tournament are as follows:

  • The Spring Grand Tournament will take place on Saturday April 19th, 2008, from 12:00 noon to approximately 10:00pm. The store will open as regularly scheduled at 11:00AM, at which point registration for the event will begin.
  • The entry fee will be $25, as usual.
  • All entrants will start out with 26 points, and will compete in elimination rounds of several different game systems throughout the day, until a winner is determined.
  • The first round will be a Magic: the Gathering Ravnica block repack draft, as it was last time. No surprises there. No further information about the following rounds of competition will be released until the day of the event.
  • Greg Frank, the winner of the previous Gaming Olympics (the 2007 Winter Olympics) will receive a Get Out of Elimination Free card, should he choose to participate in the Spring Grand Tournament. This will be used to prevent his elimination from any one round during the tournament in which he would otherwise be eliminated.

The top prizes for the Grand Tournament will again be Gift Certificates to Games & Gifts Galore, the value of which is to be determined, based on the number of participants. Additional prizes will be awarded as well, including product prizes for all participants. (We promise there will be better prizes in the Summer, but for now we're trying to do the best we can with such short notice)

About Games & Gifts Galore

Games & Gifts Galore is first and foremost a gaming/hobby/entertainment store, but is also a pioneer as a facility for promoting educational ideals through entertainment. Founded in 2006 by Dov Frier, a New York State certified teacher of American History in Lawrence School District, Games & Gifts Galore has been striving unwaveringly to bring the educational foundations of hobby gaming to mainstream audiences through our many events and programs such as our revolutionary Game Camp program, which you can learn more about here on our website. We also offer a discount to students who bring in their most recent Report Card with all A's and B's, as an incentive for our regular customers to always remember to put schoolwork first and gaming second. Games & Gifts Galore has sent representatives to speak about the educational benefits of games at schools and Boy Scout events, and has sent Gift Certificate donations to schools and other educational organizations in the past; For the near future, we have plans for a new fundraising partnership program to help support local school groups, starting in the Fall of 2008.

Games & Gifts Galore hosts weekly tournaments on many different game systems, as well as hosting occasional Premier-Level events for some of those game systems. There are several weekly Role-playing groups that meet in our store, as well. For more information on these events and others, see our calendar and event pages.

Games & Gifts Galore, in addition to carrying a wide variety of board games, collectible card and miniature games, and various accessories, also carries a huge supply of used media, including used DVDs, VHS tapes, BetaMax tapes, music CDs, PC games, various video game consoles and games, back-issue comic books, novels, and more. We buy and resell collections of all of these items and more, for store credit or cash. Call or bring in your collection, or first check our Trade-In page for more details. We do not accept adult films or other adult entertainment items.

Games & Gifts Galore is conveniently located at 3937 Merrick Road in Seaford, NY, in the Seaford Cinemas complex, between restaurants The Brown Osprey and Cara Mia Due.
